Ape TV

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Tomorrow, the BBC will broadcast the first film ever to be shot entirely by chimpanzees….and before you ask, no, I don’t mean that pejoratively.

Made as part of a scientific study into how chimpanzees perceive the world and each other, the movie was the brainchild of primatologist Betsy Herrelko and was made using ‘Chimpcams’ -  cameras housed in special ‘chimp-proof’ boxes.

A source at Channel Four informs me that following the success of the experiment, 100 of the chimps have been signed up by Endemol to devise new celebrity reality TV shows.

Answer Time

Last night, amidst much controversy, Nick Griffin, the leader of  an extremist, racist, political party, appeared as a guest on the BBC’s flagship topical affairs programme ‘Question Time’…and, to borrow a phrase from Bernie Grant, got ‘a damn good hiding’. I was going to do a remix, but it seems that the consistently excellent Cassette Boy has beaten me to it…

Well I guess my work here is done.

Deja Jew

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Tonight, BBC Four viewers can watch the first of a three part series by filmmaker, Vanessa Engle, entitled ‘Jews’.

According to the BBC’s press office, Part One of the series, will look at the Hasidic community in Stamford Hill. Part Two, at the “…psychological inheritance of the Holocaust [that] the children of refugees and survivors find themselves carrying…in their everyday lives.” Part Three, at a 52-year-old millionaire philanthropist from Hendon, who formerly owned a chain of high street shops.

So congratulations to the Beeb for, in one fell swoop, fulfilling their entire official unwritten policy that ‘where one really must show British Jews on screen, it will be as religious extremists, victims of the Holocaust, or rich NW London merchants.’
